Daily Coupon: $1/3 Reese's, Kit Kat & Hershey's Snack Size Bags....Halloween

While you are printing your end of the month coupons be sure to check out this new coupon on Smartsource.  I will be printing this one to prepare for Halloween.  We get anywhere from 500 to 650 trick-or-treaters.  Most stores will be setting their Halloween aisles within the next couple of weeks if they haven't already and usually the candy there is a little cheaper than in the regular candy aisle and it tends to go on sale a lot.

I like to make little bags for the trick-or-treaters with toys and candy.  I collect small toys, pencils and stickers (and the bags if I can find them) on clearance the year before and store them in a tote.  I try to wait until things go 75% -90% off (there is usually still a lot left by then).

My kids have a lot of fun helping me put the bags together.......we like to do it with Halloween specials playing on T.V. in the background.

Octopus Hot Dogs On A Bed Of Seaweed

Several years ago, my husband wanted to make something fun for the kids for lunch so he did a little research online and found these cute octopus hot dogs and we have been making them ever since. They are super easy to create and are hands down my kids' favorite way to eat hot dogs.

We like to serve them on a bed of seaweed (steamed broccoli) surrounded by a beach of cheesy sand (brown or white rice prepared as normal and then add your favorite cheese and melt....yummy!).  The octopuses are also good served on a bed of coral (mac & cheese).

To start the octopus make four slices up the hot dog (I use kitchen scissors) and stop about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the top (head).

After you have made your four legs, take each leg and slice it it up the middle to make your eight legs.  Be careful at this step because it is easy to lose a leg. 

When all your octopuses are prepared, add them to a sauce pan, cover with water and cook on medium.  This is where the magic happens...........the legs start to curl up and when they look like octopus legs it is time to pull the hot dogs from the water.  For a final touch add mustard or ketchup eyes.

*I used the hot dogs I got for FREE at Walmart using ad matching and coupons.

My Walmart Trip......$75.40 Worth Of Groceries For $29.80

We went to Walmart yesterday to do a little shopping with coupons and competitor store ads in hand.  I love that Walmart ad matches.  It can save a lot of time and money.  On this shopping trip, I spent only $29.80 (that includes tax) for groceries that would have cost me $75.40 if I didn't use coupons or ad matches!

Here is what I purchased:

3 Starbucks Ice Creams $1.99/each- ad matched to Safeway's ad (normal price $2.48/each) and used 3 $1.25/1 Starbucks coupons from the Sunday paper = $0.74/each

2 Bags of Pizza Rolls- $1.99/each- ad matched to Safeway's ad (normal price $2.98/each) and used 1 $0.35/1 coupon from the Sunday paper (yes I only had one coupon) = $1.99 for 1 and $1.64 for the other

4 Bunsize Beef Ball Park Hot Dog Packages- $1.99/each- ad matched to Albertson's ad (normal price $2.50/each) and used 4 $2/1 coupons from Facebook (no longer available) = $0.04 moneymaker.......come back on Monday to see what a fun dinner I make with these for my kids!

4 Nabisco Snak Paks Cookie Bags- $0.99/each- ad matched to Safeway's ad (normal price $1.99/each) and used 2 $1/2 Nabisco cookie or cracker coupon = $0.49/each

2 2ltr. Pepsi Max- $0.88/each- ad matched to Safeway's ad (normal price $1.67/each) and used a BOGO FREE coupon from Facebook (no longer available) = $0.44/each

2 Poptarts- $1.89/each and used a $1/2 coupon peelie (I will also use the codes inside the boxes towards FREE movie tickets) = $1.39/each (not the best price but I was craving raspberry ones)

2 King Size Reese's Peanut Butter Cups- $1.00/each and used a $1/2 coupon found on tearpad at a convience store (this is a great place to find coupons for pop/candy) = $0.50/each

2 King Size Reese's Stix- $0.78/ each (was ringing up $1.18/each but sticker on shelf said $0.78 so that is what I got it for) and I used another $1/2 Reese's coupon = $0.28/each

Large Bag of Doritos - $2.48 and used a "buy 2 Ball Park Hot Dogs and get a FREE bag of Doritos" coupon out of the Albertson's ad = FREE

1 Chex Mix- $1.98 and used a $0.50 coupon from the Sunday paper = $1.48

2 Kellogg's Pops Mix It Cereal - $1.25/each (marked down from $1.67) and used 2 printable $0.75 coupons (coupon is now down to $0.50 and expires 8/31)= $0.50/each

6 Boxes of Cheese Nibs- $1/each and used 6 $1/1 Nabisco crackers tearpad coupon = 6 Boxes for FREE (will be donating some to my kids' school)

1 24 Pack of Diet Coke - $5.98 and used a $1/1 peelie = $4.98

24 Pack of Purex Laundry sheets $4.97 (refills were the same price but had 4 more sheet in it so that is what I went with) and used a $3/1 coupon from the Sunday paper = $1.97

1 Package of Rayovac batteries - $0.97 and used a $1/1 coupon from their website = $0.03 moneymaker

1 Box of Wheat Thins Sticks - $2.98 and used a $1/1 tearpad coupon = $1.98

$75.40 worth of groceries for only $29.80.  I was able to save $11.02 by ad matching and $34.58 with coupons.

My favorite campfire meal is a foil dinner.  You take a potato and dice it, add some seasoning and place it on one side of a sheet of aluminum foil.  On the other side of the aluminum foil goes my meat ( I take about 1/4 lb. hamburger add some diced onion, seasonings, and worsh. sauce).  Fold the foil over and crimp the edges- making a packet.  When your fire has died down some and there are plenty of coals set the foil dinners in and top with some of the coals.   Cook until done. I top my hamburger with a little ketchup and my potatoes with a little butter. Yummy!

Finally! =0)  Walgreen's has a coupon policy and in my husband's words "it looks pretty sweet!"  Go HERE to print it and keep it with you....it should make shopping with coupons there a little easier.

Some of my favorites:

When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased.

Under Multiple coupons:
The coupon amount must be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $5.00 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value).   I really like this one because I have been turned down before because my coupon was more than the selling price and my cashier said that they couldn't adjust down my coupon.......now they can =0)

Under Sale items:
In the event that any item's selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is ever provided in exchange for any coupons.  Just saying that the coupon needs to be adjusted if it is more than the price of the item =0)

FREE Cheese Nips Crackers At Walmart

We made a quick trip to Walmart yesterday and discovered some wonderful coupons on a tearpad..... $1/1 on any box of Nabisco crackers.  They were located on a display (not regular cracker aisle) of Ritz crackers in an overstock aisle.  There is no size limit on the coupon so we were able to get the 8 oz. Cheese Nips for FREE (my Walmart has them for $1/box).  Unfortunately, the coupons expire 8/29 but that does give you a few days if you can find these hot coupons in your store.

Today's Groupon Deal: $50 To Spend At The Gap For Only $25

Today's Groupon deal is a great one for those of us who still have school clothes shopping left to do or who just love shopping at the Gap!  For $25 you can get a "groupon" for $50 worth of clothing and accessories at the Gap.  The "groupon" is only valid in Gap stores, not online, and it also works on sale items. =0)  The "groupon" expires 11/19.

What is Groupon?  It is a site that works on the collective buying principal.....they get huge discounts by promising business so many customers.  For example, on today's deal they "promised" Gap that they could get 25 people (I am using Spokane as my city) to purchase the "groupon."  Once the purchasing power reaches that 25 threshold then everyone who wants to purchase it will get it.  If It doesn't reach 25 then no one can get it.  (You will not be charged unless the 25 threshold is met) The deal changes daily.

"Twice the Value" Coupons At Albertsons

Is anyone having trouble using "twice the value" coupons at their Albertsons?  I have two Albertsons where I live- one is coupon friendly.....one not so much. I have seen several people in the one store be turned down with their "twice the value" coupons when they were using a manufacturer's coupon for a $1 and the item they were purchasing was under $2. I have even been turned down and told they weren't going to give me something for FREE and if I was going to use a "twice the value" coupon and a $1 manufacture coupon the item I was purchasing had to be $2 or more. The coupon friendly store just adjusts down the "twice the value" coupon and I end up getting the item for FREE- just no overage....like it should be done.  I never understood why cashiers or stores make up policies different than what corporate puts out. 

I finally broke down and emailed Alberston's corporate office and received a copy of their coupon policy.  I have included the part that deals with this subject but if you would like a copy of the entire policy email me at affordingcommoncents @ gmail.com and I will forward a copy of the email.

From the email:

Intermountain West - Can a Manufacturer Coupon be Combined with a Store Coupon?Yes a customer can use a manufacture coupon in conjunction with a store coupon on the same item, if it takes it below the stated retail value we DO NOT give money back. We adjust the coupon.For example a customer has a $1 off mayo coupon with one of our own $1 off coupons but the jar of mayo is only for $1.98. We would take off the manufacture coupon for a dollar then adjust the store coupon to 98 cents. Thus making it free for the customer but not giving money back.

Twice the Value coupons CAN be used/paired with manufacturer coupons that state Do Not Double (or similar wording). The maximum face value of the manufacturer coupon is still $1.00 or less to be used with Twice the Value coupons.

Basically, this means that the "twice the value" coupons are to be taken and adjusted down if the item purchased using a $1 manufacturer's coupon is less than $2.

I will printing the policy and keeping it in my coupon binder.  I would suggest getting the coupon policies of the stores that you shop at and keeping them handy for the next time an issue occurs or if you have questions yourself =0).

I had to make a quick trip to Walmart today with the kids but I was able to pick up a few things for FREE using coupons =0)

4- Post-its Super Sticky Notes- Used two printables and two coupons from the Sunday (8/15) coupon insert.

1- 16 pack of Always Maxi pads- used a FREE product coupon that I received in my Being Girl freebie (no longer available).

6 boxes of Cinnabon Cereal on sale for $1 each- used 2 $1 coupons from the Parade insert from the Sunday (8/15) paper and 4 $0.75 printables from HERE and HERE = $1 but I have a mail-in-rebate for $1 = 6 boxes for FREE.

1 Box of Crackerfuls- FREE product coupon from Kraft First Taste. (no longer available but you can sign up and have a chance for future offers).
