My Walmart Trip......$44.89 Worth Of Groceries For $15.30

I made a trip to Walmart yesterday and took advantage of their ad matching policy and scored some great deals with coupons.  I spent only $15.30 for $44.89 worth of groceries.  I saved $29.59 just by ad matching 2 different items (Ore-Ida and Campbell's) and using coupons on everything except for 3 items!

Here is a breakdown of my trip:

10 bags of Ore-Ida hashbrowns and french fries- Reg. $2.48/each, I ad matched to Safeway's ad for $1.99/each and used 5-$3/2 coupons from the $70 Safeway coupon book = $0.49/each

2 cans of Campbell's Selects soup- Reg. $1.22/each, I ad matched to Safeway's ad for $1/each and I used a $1/2 coupon from a Sunday insert = $0.50/each

2 Meow Mix Market Selects cat foods- Reg.$0.56/each and I used a $1/2 coupon from a Sunday insert = $0.06/each

1 Yakisoba noodle dish- Reg. $0.52/each and I used a $0.50/1 coupon from a Sunday insert = $0.02

4 Packages of Planters Honey Roasted Cashews (1 is missing from the picture......got a little hungry on the way home)- on clearance for $0.60 each and I used 2 $1/1 printable coupons (no longer available) = $0.10 each

1 Goldfish Smores crackers- Reg. $1 and I used a $0.75/1 coupon found in Woman's Day magazine = $0.25

1 package of Crest flossers- Reg. $2.47 and I used a $1/1 coupon from the P&G Saver insert from the Sunday paper = $1.47

1 bag of Wonka candy- Reg. $2.97 and I used a $1.50/1 coupon from a Sunday insert = $1.47

1 Downy fabric softener- Reg. $3.97 and I used a $1.50/1 coupon from a Sunday insert = $2.47

1 package of Planter peanuts (missing from the picture......my son also got a little hungry on the way home)- on clearance for $0.48- no coupon

1 container of sour cream- Reg. $1.47- no coupon

1 Totino's Party Pizza- Reg. $1.25- no coupon

*I clip my coupons and keep them in a binder so I can't tell you what Sunday insert my coupons come from.

FREE Download Of Recipes From Gooseberry Patch

Click HERE to download two different chapters from Gooseberry Patch's cookbook, "Circle of Friends."The first chapter includes 25 recipes for mac and cheese and the second chapter includes 25 recipes for chocolate chip cookies.  Yummy!

If you have never seen a Gooseberry Patch cookbook I would highly encourage you to check them out.  They are so fun and have great recipes.  I usually buy mine at Costco (save about $7 over the list price) or I use my 40% off coupon and get one at Jo Ann's Fabrics.  I have a 1/2 of a bookcase filled with the cookbooks..........my son (the one who wants to be a chef) has requested that I leave them to him in my will.  =0)

How We Are Saving Money At Disneyland- The Rainforest Cafe

We are planning a trip to Disneyland this December so I have been looking for ways to cut down on the cost.  Eating out while you are traveling can take a big chunk of change!   We normally only eat breakfast and a late lunch/early dinner plus snacks when we are traveling (too busy having fun) which can help cut down on your food budget. Some places are actually cheaper to eat lunch at than dinner so if you can, hit those restaurants at lunch time.  As we get ready for our trip, I will be sharing my secrets and tips on how to save money when you are on vacation!

Thanks to my sister I found out that in Disneyland's vicinity is a Rainforest Cafe.  I heard that this is a fun place to eat and shop so of course I want to go there.  Being frugal though I had to figure out how to do it without breaking the bank.

Here is how we will be eating there as a family of 5:

I turned in my points from Mypoints (a reward program for shopping, taking surveys, and reading emails, plus I earn points for submitting Buzz Reports through BzzAgent) and I received a $50 gift card to the Rainforest Cafe (and family of restaurants) for FREE!!!!

I know that a $50 gift card is not going to cover an entire meal for a family of 5 so I looked for other ways to save.  I checked out Rainforest Cafe's website and I discovered that they have a kid's reward program.  There are 4 different reward certificates that you can print out and have your kids complete.  Bring those certificates in with you and your child can get a kid's meal for only $0.99!!! Kid's meals run from $5.99 to $6.99 so that is a big savings, especially if you have a few kids. =0)  These are valid for kids 10 or younger with a purchase of an adult entree and are limited to 2 per table.  Which works for me because I have two kids 10 or younger.  I also have a kid who is 11. ......maybe we will share a meal.  That's another idea.  I can never seem to eat an entire meal myself- it just seems that most restaurants serve huge meals and I am usually full after the salad! =0)

If you live near a Rainforest Cafe, you can also sign up for the Safari Club and save even more.  Plus, you get a $10 reward for just signing up.  Too bad you can't do it online. =0(

Do you have any tips?  I would love to hear them.

What's In Your Mailbox?

I get excited to check my mailbox now that I get the freebies and other treasures coming. Do you feel the same way?

This is what I got in my mailbox today:

Coupon for a FREE package of M&M's

John Frieda Sheer Blonde samples & $1 coupon

Downy sample from Vocalpoint with some high value coupons

FREE AC adapter that the Fed Ex man delivered today

What was in your mailbox?

I just saved $60

My laptop and I have an almost intimate relationship....I think that my husband gets a little jealous sometimes.  It's kind of his fault though because he is the one who got it for me last Christmas.  Having said this, I was heart broken when my ac adapter (my computer's lifeline) decided to walk out of the relationship and not be a part of the equation anymore.  I kept plugging it in and it just wouldn't give my computer any love.

Being the hero that my husband is, he decided to look online about purchasing a new one and that's when we found out that they are apparently made out of gold because HP wanted $60 for a new one and that was even after an instant rebate.  I was too scared to see what shipping cost.  In my dispair I turned over my computer (not really sure why) but then I found the three most wonderful words in the tiniest print, "Warranty:  1 year."

To make it even better, HP has a 24 hour customer service access online and that night (OK it was really more like 1 o'clock that morning) we talked to a really nice guy who sent us a new ac adapter.....FREE of charge.  That was Tuesday morning and a day later on Wednesday morning (today) the Fed Ex man delivered my little gem.

Thank you HP.  Thank you Fed Ex man.  And thank you my true love, my laptop.....I mean my husband. =0)

*Moral of the story:  When something breaks don't be afraid to see if it is still under warranty.  It could save you some money.

Our Star Wars The Clone Wars Houseparty

We just recently hosted a Star Wars The Clone Wars Houseparty and had a blast.  We received the following Clone Wars items from Houseparty to help host this party (at no cost to us):

10 Action Figures (currently on Rollback at Walmart for $6.97each)
1 Game Play Mat
10 Codes to Play the Game Online for FREE for 3 Months
10 Sheet of Tattoos
10 $1/1 Coupons for the Action Figures
1 DVD of Behind the Scenes and Sneak Peek at the New Season

I have found that to throw a great party you don't need to spend a lot of money on decorations or put out 10 different kinds of food.  Keep it simple and everyone including the host will have fun!

For the party, we decided to do a bbq and made "Death Star" Cheeseburgers, Yoda Soda (7up and lime sherbet), and Star Wing Fighters (Doritos).  As a treat, we also made pretzel "lightsabers."

Here is a breakdown of what we spent ourselves on the party:

Cheeseburgers-
$14.97 on hamburger and $3.47 on buns (purchased at Costco)
Cheese- FREE from a recent sale and coupon combo at Albertsons
Lettuce- $1.67 for a head
Tomatoes- $0.65 (purchased at Walmart and ad matched to another store that had them cheaper)
Condiments - out of the fridge (no extra cost)

Yoda Soda-
2- 2ltr.  7up on sale at Safeway (ad matched at Walmart) $0.77/each
Lime Sherbet- $2.47

Doritos-
FREE with coupon when I purchased FREE hot dogs a couple of weeks ago

Lightsabers-
$2.49 for Pretzel sticks
$1.99 for the candy melts (purchased at Michael's and used 50% off coupon)

Extra expenses:  We also purchased 12 Star Wars The Clone Wars puzzles on clearance for a total of $3 to add to the gift bags and the gift bags for $1.50.  To eat with, we purchased cups for $1.25 (on clearance and with coupon) and plates for $1.50.

Total we spent on this party:  $36.50  which fed 13 people and provided 2 hours of entertainment for my kids and their friends (plus gift bags to take home).
